CHRISTIAN VOICE HAWAII BLOG
Next year, 2009, Hawaii will be celebrating the Year of the Family. It is an occasion for all of Hawaii to focus on and affirm the essential role that traditional family has in forming a healthy society. It’s a time to renew our commitment to strengthen traditional family values.
The Governor appointed a Commission for the Year of the Family to encourage community participation and to provide some coordination services for those participating. But the real impetus will come from the participants themselves. Whether it be a church, a business, a service organization, a community club, an ethnic club, a government agency, an extended family, whatever... It is up to them to decide how they want to celebrate the value of family.
Christian Voice of Hawaii encourages all the churches in Hawaii to use this particular year to reemphasize God’s design for family. This can be done in many ways: through a special series of Biblical teachings, church events like family picnics, or community service activities that involve the whole family, or a family-oriented worship celebration, and so forth. To borrow a famous phrase: Focus on the Family!
The Year of the Family Commission has a logo that can be used to signify an official Year of the Family event or activity. The commission can provide some promotions of events through announcements in the media, their official website, a calendar of events, etc. A song, “We Are Family (The Ohana Song),” that I wrote, has been adopted as the official theme song for the celebration. It is already well known among the children of Hawaii and will be produced for use in public service announcements on TV and radio, music videos, and digital downloads, etc.
